Current and historic U.S. Aerial Photography is acquired at various scales and from a variety of sources. Scales include 1:12,000, 1:24,000 and 1:40,000. The Photography is either black-and-white, natural color or color infrared, depending on the source. The photography is available in either hard-copy or in various digital formats.

Digital Orthophoto Quarter Quadrangles (DOQQs) are also available from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Each DOQQ covers an area roughly 3 1/2 miles by 4 1/2 miles at a scale of 1:12,000.The photography is geo-referenced so that other digital map layers can be overlaid on it.
