GPS2CAD Features

GPS2CAD gives design professionals major cost savings in data collection by using recreational-grade GPS units to collect field information and plot it in AutoCAD, or their favorite CAD program. Most recreational GPS units are well-suited for site layout and "topo-plotting" requirements that do not need great accuracy, and GPS2CAD bridges the gap between these GPS units and CAD.

Importing points from your GPS is easy! GPS2CAD imports the Way points, Routes, and Tracks from your GPS unit, along with all the point information.

This short video shows how easy it is. Beginning at the main window and point grid, you will see:

Plotting points in AutoCAD

With the click of a button, the way points are placed into the AutoCAD drawing

The program converts the Latitude and Longitude coordinates to an X, Y, Z , a format that AutoCAD understands. It will plot in 3D, so you can use it for terrain modeling, and it plots as points, lines, and blocks to give you the most versatility. The blocks carry attributes containing text descriptors of the point - such as comments, id, and others.

Provides Datum Translation GPS2CAD translates the GPS into more than 40 world wide coordinate systems, including the extremely popular NAD 27, NAD 83, and the State Plane Coordinate systems (used in the United States).

Earth2CAD Have you ever played with Google Earthâ„¢ and wished you could get those great images into your AutoCAD drawing? Well a great feature of GPS2CAD is the ability to bring custom bit-map images into the program. Then with the click of a button, the image and point data can all be sent into your AutoCAD drawing, ready for you to draft over.

The Maps Module and the Import / Export module both add important capability to GPS2CAD. The Maps module recovers free U.S.G.S. Aerial and Topo maps from Terraserver.com . You can read more about it here.

The Import / Export module adds the ability to get points from your drawing, convert them to Latitude / Longitude, and send them into your GPS unit. You can read more about it here.
